Chromate Conversion Coatings

Commonly referred to by the trade name Alocrom, Chromate Conversion Coatings provide good levels of corrosion resistance combined with low electrical resistance.

Frequently specified as a base coat prior to the application of paint or powder coating this chemical treatment is applied by dip or brush.

Alocrom is a cold chemical process and is suitable for treating most modern day aluminium alloys including cast, drawn, billet and sheet material.

Surface Properties of Chromate Conversion Coatings

The thickness of the coating is approx. 0.3 microns and Alocrom 1200 has a golden / straw appearance and clear in the case of Alocrom 1000. Unfinished (i.e. unpainted) Alocrom treated components are not suitable for areas subject to abrasion.
